"Whoever receives one such child in my name
receives me, and whoever receives me,
receives not me but Him who sent me.

Who We Are

Since 2007, Light for Orphans has touched the lives of thousands of Egypt's neediest children and young adults.

Mission Statement

Light for Orphans is an international child development organization dedicated to alleviating the suffering of orphans and vulnerable children, by providing support for their physical, emotional, psychological, and mental well-being.

With the blessings of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and the guidance and leadership of Father Daoud Lamie, Light for Orphans targets the unserved, neediest orphans and children. In partnership with local churches and volunteers, Light for Orphans strives to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy and to empower orphans and vulnerable children. The aim of Light for Orphans is to provide for children's basic needs while equipping them with the education they need to become productive members of society.

Why Orphans and Vulnerable Children?

Orphans are children who have lost one or both parents. In Egypt, many of these children live in homes supported by the mother, who is unable to provide even the most basic needs for her children. Many other orphans have been abandoned and left to live on the streets or in orphanages.

Vulnerable children include children who live in a home:

- that has a chronically ill parent
- in which an adult died in the past year
- with a chronically ill adult
- outside of household care
- that is a child-headed or elderly-headed household
- impoverished, displaced, etc.

Orphans and vulnerable children live in severe poverty, under subhuman conditions, and are devoid of basic needs such as nutrition, clothing, housing and sanitary facilities. They have no prospect for education or training opportunities that would empower them to function as productive citizens in the future.
